Many of the medicines in
use in Dr Hahnemann’s day were poisonous. He experimented
with dosages until the end of his long life in an effort
to make medicines less toxic. He found that the most
similar remedy still worked well despite being
progressively diluted and succussed (shaken up
vigorously). He mainly used the centesimal method, using
one part active ingredient to 99 parts of inert substance.
He called this process, ‘potentising’. Potencies are
run up one step at a time. The decimal and LM potencies
are also used. The infinitesimal quantity of active
ingredient in homoeopathic preparations is one reason why
conventional medicine is unable to accept
homoeopathy. Homoeopaths believe that with a minimum amount of the similar (‘dynamic’) medicine, the sluggish, unhealthy, disturbed defence mechanism, (immune system, what Hahnemann called, ’life force’), the individual is put on a path of progressive healing. After the correct remedy the patient feels more energetic, better able to think creatively, more balanced emotionally, as well as experiencing improvements physically. Each case is unique. Individuals differ in their level of health. Homeopathy is essentially a treatment of the individual, not a ‘one diagnosis fits all’ treatment. It took many years of experimentation and clinical experience for Dr. Hahnemann to understand that therapy was a matter of energy manipulation and good health meant good ‘life force’ flow. He began to see what he called the life force of a medicine/ remedy, when applied according to the law of similars, cured his patients of serious acute epidemic sicknesses and even reversed some chronic illnesses if they weren’t too far advanced. see article link: Minimum dose News flash: Scientists discover the minimum dose. |
